Decided to see how Ilford HP5 would perform when pushed to 3200. As you can see, the results were very usable. I really love the grain – it isn’t offensively overpowering or dominating, but noticeable enough.

The contrast is probably a smidge too much for me however. The open shade shadows fall away a bit too quickly which is something I’ll need to be aware of in future.

I developed the roll in D76 1:1 @ 25 degrees celsius for 18 minutes. The maximum dev chart recommended 16 mins, however the temp in the house was cold and getting colder, so I allowed a few minutes longer to compensate.

Scanned on a Noritsu LS600 and processed in Lightroom, only setting the white and black points.

On another point, this was the first time I’d fully surrendered control to the meter on my Nikon FM3a – I shot in aperture priority mode for the entire roll. Also, I deliberately shot some tricky scenes, and expected some poor results especially given the 3 stop push on HP5. The results however were pretty good.
